iBooks Author: Publishing Your First Ebook

As the previous reviewer pointed out, this is not about the 1001 different ways to use iBooks Author (I will call it iBA from now) instead it quickly establishes how easy iBA is to setup and present your hard efforts in the the best light.

The lessons are well structured and easy to follow with the presenter speaking clearly and professionally. Maria certainly knows her subjects and over the course of two evenings I was able to complete the tasks and view then on my iPad with pleasing results.

Maria has two versions of this title, one is straight forward text lessons, whereas the other which I'm reviewing is the interactive version. This means it has video content for each lesson so you can see and hear Maria as she shows you how to proceed. The lessons are nicely paced and really highlight what a great medium the iPad is for demonstrating and learning.

For me, it's the best of its class and I am now more confident about designing my own publications.

Its such good value for the price, I'm sure you'll agree.

I just wish the actual procedure for setting up a paid content account which you have to sign too if you wish to sell via the iBooks Store was as easy. As a Brit, I'm finding it near impossible to do as you need tax account in America, but how it works is beyond me!

Please Apple, read Maria's guide and make your publishing system easier !

This is the Interactive version of Maria Langer's book on iBook Author. It's a little bit more expensive than the non-interactive version but well worth it in my opinion.

Maria has resisted the temptation to simply add interactive content to her book to showcase what you can do with the technology, and instead concentrated on adding content that is actually useful to the what the book is trying to achieve. Each time the book describes how to do something there is now a short movie that shows you what to do. This sounds small but it removes any confusion as to which boxes to tick to etc. And having worked through them with my iPad next to my MBA I can confirm they are spot on.

Actually this approach convinces you far more clearly how useful an interactive book like this can be, far more than simple contrived examples ever could. It's certainly convinced me that this is definitely the approach I want to take for the project I had in mind when I bought this book.

On the book itself - this is an excellent book if, like me, you've never touched iBook Author before. It takes you through all the steps you need to from zero to published work in easy stages. The worked example is engaging and all the files you need to create it are available on Maria's website.

What this is not, is a definitive reference to all things iBooks Author, a point Maria makes right at the start. It's a starting point, a get you up and running quickly guide. This is not the only iBooks Author book you'll ever need, but it's certainly one that'll get you going painlessly and enjoyably.

Thoroughly recommend for iBooks Author novices.
