Brilliant

I read this book in ten to twelve hour over two days, I have to say because I didn't want to put it down. I was hooked after the first chapter and each chapter gets better and better so you just have to read one more and one more (you will understand when you read it) It is a fast paced story with I promise you no boring bits. As a person who usually gets the ending to books and films part way through I have to confess I did not see this one coming, it was a shock and truly unexpected. The characters are realistic and believable, I began to feel their emotions as the story continued I did tear up a couple of times. All in all a great story that keeps you enthralled all the way. Can't wait for the next one

Good enough story

The storyline was good but a number of things ruined the book for me. It could have been a 4.5* rather than a 3*.

My main bugbear was the frequent bad grammar which acted like a series of slaps in the face to me.
The further through the book I got, the more aware I became that I was waiting for the next mistake as much as wanting to know what happened next.
We all make occasional mistakes but surely an author should be setting a good example to readers.

There were some adjectives without the -ly endings they needed to be the adverbs the were meant to be.

I lost count of the number of “was sat”s and “was stood”s when “was sitting” or “was standing” should have been used. (We would never say “I was ran along the road.”) I know this is creeping into speech these days and I wouldn’t be complaining if it had been used in speech but I think it only occurred once in a character’s words.

Surely, if a writer uses the wrong word, a proof reader or editor should point it out to them. Again, if it had happened in a character’s speech it would perhaps have been acceptable.
The author told us someone “lent” something off someone. No, they borrowed it.
She also had a character drinking from a glass “robbed” from a pub. No, the pub was robbed; the glass was stolen.

If you don’t care about my kind of gripes you’ll probably enjoy the book. The story was different and, otherwise, well told. I won’t read any more by this author as I don’t think my nerves will stand it!
