Publisher Description

Come and have a look inside the three rooms of the Second Impressionist Exhibition in Paris in 1876.  On Thursday 30 March 1876, the group of painters, some of whom are being labelled as “Impressionists” opened the doors to over 280 paintings, sketches and drawings in an art gallery in central Paris.  Here in “In 1876: Second Impressions” are 133 of those images in one book.

There will be artists in this exhibition that you don’t know as well as famous names.  Some were early in their commercial career and some you might struggle to call Impressionists at all.  Some of the contemporary critics suggested that some of them were not even artists.  Have a look yourself, imagine you have the chance to wander through those three rooms from 138 years ago with the benefit of hindsight.  Would you have spent a couple of hundred francs on any of them?  Or all of them?
