APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Ruth Mancini’s compelling debut thriller introduces us to Sarah Kellerman, a working mum who is trying to balance her demanding law career alongside single-handedly raising her disabled son. When another mother is accused of the unthinkable—poisoning her eleven-month-old baby—Sarah, confronted with reminders of her own past, begins a desperate search to discover the truth. As In the Blood races towards its chilling climax, Mancini expertly tackles complex themes of motherhood, class and power. Be warned, once begun, this dark court-room drama is impossible to put down.
3* story, 5* writing
I gave an average of 4* for a good but occasionally implausible story which was written in an easy to read and compelling way.
Was the narrative helped by being in the present tense? I don’t think so and, while on the whole I did get used to it, there were numerous occasions when it seemed clumsy and jarred on me.
I did want to know what the outcome would be and to see if my guesses were correct so, overall, it was a good, quick and easy read.
In the blood
An in-putdown-able read!
