His heart began to thud, his throat to close. He tried to pull his body from the pool. 'I'll help you', his killer said. He felt no pain.
A young teacher sips a hot chocolate, blissfully unaware that his first taste condemns him to an agonising death. The community around him is devastated and suspiciously protective of their own.
No one is better equipped to see through the lies than homicide Lieutenant Eve Dallas, but she is distracted by the arrival of her husband Roarke's ex-lover, an impossibly glamorous vixen, determined to steal Roarke back.
But Eve's personal life must wait when a second murder victim is found, and everyone's eyes turn to the perfect school at the heart of it all. Its secret will soon be out . . .
Once again Lt. Eve Dallas shows why she's "New York City's top murder cop" in Roberts's 24th thriller under her Robb pseudonym set half a century into the future (after 2006's Born in Death). Dallas tries to close a case at the exclusive Sarah Child Academy, where two bright 10-year-old girls discover the body of Craig Foster, a popular history teacher who proves to have been poisoned by ricin-laced cocoa. Dallas wonders if another staff member or a parent might be involved, but after the prime suspect, a promiscuous teacher who's been harassing another employee, turns up dead, the investigation takes a shocking turn. Besides a provocative puzzler, Robb provides an intense relationship update on Dallas and Roarke, her Irish power broker hubby, whose dark past in the form of a crooked ex-girlfriend returns to cause trouble. This prolific author, a recent Quills romance winner, is still at the top of her game.

Innocent in Death
It’s Jd Robb at her best again. So clearly written in joyous detail. I love the jealousy in Dallas and how a man like Roarke can have his head turned and have no idea that a woman could play him.
The story as usual by Jd Robb had you swinging from one suspect to the next in glorious conclusion and took you down a forbidden road that no one would want to go.
