Publisher Description
InSects follows Violet, a girl dragged by her mother and stepfather from Arizona to the rain-soaked coast of British Columbia. Violet now has to cope with losing her home, her friends, her family, and everything that made her who she was. At school, she is the oddball, the quiet, anxious new girl.
Surrounded by cliques of collectors, she stands out as the strange one, with no cards, collectibles, or tchotchkes to claim.
When she finds a fallen chrysalis in the school yard, she's determined to see the fragile being inside to its new life beyond the confines of its thin cocoon. Meanwhile, for her, life continues to become more difficult both at school and at home.
When bullying escalates to an unlivable climax, Violet fights back, not just for herself, but to protect her tiny, helpless friend. Instead of making things better, she finds herself at the mercy of her tormentors, fighting for her very life.
Instead of being the savior, Violet finds herself rescued by the least likely hero: the strange, beautiful creature that erupts from its cocoon to aid her and begins her own transformation into something terrible, inhuman, and perfect.
It's time for Violet to become a collector, too...
