When I was twelve years old, I almost killed my sister.

We were down at the creek, jumping in and out of the water. I told her I would race her to the other side of the creek. I pretended to do a running dive, but stopped at the last second; she didn't. Cheryl dived into the shallow water, with the sound of my laughter in her ears. In those few seconds, I destroyed her life. My own life has been an agony for all the suffering I caused her.

The accident turned her total admiration for me, her big brother, into scornful sarcasm. My stupidity not only ruined her life but the bonds we had between us. The relationship I had with my parents was ripped to shreds, my self-respect turned to dust. There was one motivation left in my life: I wanted to find a way to cure my sister, to give her the ability to walk again. I knew it was nearly impossible, but the story that you are now reading is what I have done.

There has been a lot of publicity about the use of black magic and witchcraft while trying to cure people. I know you have read some of this story in the newspapers, and probably seen the outrageous TV interviews, but I am going to tell you what truthfully happened— even if you don't believe me.
