Introduction The genus Juniperus belongs to family Cupressaceae which is a conifer family with worldwide distribution. It includes 27 to 30 genera with about 130-140 species (Silba 1986, Van Royen 1979). Juniperus phoenicea is the juniper growing in Egypt in Sinai near the Red Sea (Yelleg, Halal and Maghara mountains) in rocky ridges, Mediterranean region, extending to Central Arabia (Boulos 1999).
