ABSTRACT Introduction: With the implementation of the HPCA Act 2003, The Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand has introduced a portfolio documentation requirement which is linked to recertification. The aim of this literature review is to determine whether a professional portfolio is the most effective method to assess a physiotherapist's competence when compared with peer review, direct observation, and clinical record audit.
