Publisher Description

The story of how one council estate lad made good, really very good, and survived – just about – to tell the tale…

Chris Evans’s extraordinary career has seen him become one of the country’s most successful broadcasters and producers. From The Big Breakfast to Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush and TFI Friday, Chris changed the TV landscape during the ‘90s; and on Manchester’s Piccadilly Radio, BBC Radio 1’s Breakfast show and as owner of Virgin Radio he ushered in the age of the celebrity DJ.

But this is only part of the Chris Evans story. In this witty and energetically written autobiography, Chris describes the experiences that shaped the boy and created the man who would go on to carve out such a dazzlingly brilliant career. Born on a dreary council estate in Warrington and determined to escape, Chris started out as the best newspaper boy on the block, armed with no more than a little silver Binatone radio that he would take to the newsagents each day and through which he would develop a life-long and passionate love affair with the music and voices that emerged.

From paperboy to media mogul, It’s Not What You Think isn’t what you think – it’s the real story beyond the glare of the media spotlight from one of this country’s brightest and boldest personalities.

A canny read

I really only bought this book as had a few pound left on my account, and thought, why not. Well I did enjoy his wit and easy style of writing but I don't think he went into enough detail with loads of things. He just basically skirted over so much of his life. I've watched him since The Big Breakfast days and like him, so was hoping for all of the inside gos. Surely I'm not the only one who wants details. It is a good read tho. It's the 1st book I've bought on my phone and I'll be getting his next one too :) would hav been nice to have pictures in there too.

Surprising, eye opening and funny!

I have to admit to never really being a die hard fan of Chris Evans but on seeing this book and the fact I'd just bought an ipad, was about to go on holiday and needed a read, I decided to buy it. I can remember enjoying TFI Friday and his days on radio one, I'm a similar age. That was the full extent of my knowledge of the man but having now finished this glimpse into the life of the Ginger wonder I find myself thinking three things.
1. I never realised Timmy Mallat was so talented.
2. On reading about the tent scene on the Big Breakfast with Kim Wild I can actually remember seeing that live and thinking "I wouldn't mind being in that tent" lol.
3. Actually found myself thinking wouldn't it be great to have a good old fashioned lads night out with this guy.

That's about as good as it gets from me, it's a good read.

Awful

Childish humour that even children wouldn't enjoy. First half of the book talks about nothing but playground crushes and boring scrapes with school bullies, packed lunches and paper rounds. He tries to turn everything into a silly joke. It's an awful read with a run down of top 10's for everything he comes across. It's quite possibly the worst biography I have ever read, especially on the back of finishing the wonderful work of Michael Caine and Michael J Fox. What a contrast to this rubbish.
