Jewels of Ireland: The Irish Arts and Crafts Movement
Publisher Description
Jewels of Ireland: The Irish Arts and Crafts Movement is part of a wider digital humanities supplementing the Arts and Crafts: Making it Irish, an exhibition held at the McMullen Museum of Art, Boston College in Spring 2016. While the exhibition itself was accompanied by a catalogue of scholarly essays on the subject, this e-book is intended to be more direct in approach. Taking as its basis twenty-two objects from the show, it surveys four key themes of the Irish Arts and Crafts Movement: Antiquarianism, Cultural Romanticism, Political Nationalism, and its legacy in Irish Modernism. Utilising numerous interactive elements it makes these objects as tangible as possible outside the museum setting.
