Magic to the rescue or not…Full Speed Ahead!
I agree with the other three star reviewer (on Amazon). It is well written (I LOVED the voice of the main character - she is brilliant), but it did leave me feeling confused and mentally exhausted as there seemed to be no rest spots in the tension. This is a story for people who love plot driven fiction on full speed ahead. I freely admit for me plot is always secondary to character development (which there wasn't a whole lot of time for - the main character does grow but there's not a lot of time spent on it). This is almost 100% action so if that's your cup of tea...you will probably find this a five star. There are a lot of great characters, but as none of them get much development and you're never sure if any of them are actually going to survive the next five minutes of their lives...I found it nearly impossible to emotionally connect. This would actually make a brilliant illustrated novel...the story does have a comic feel to it and with illustrations one's brain would have time to rest. Regardless of any negatives, I will probably buy the next book to find out what happens.
