Publisher Description
The purpose of this book is to provide a look at the history of France with reference also to England from the vantage point of 2023. The main focus surrounds Mary Antoinette and King Louis XVI, the 16th King Louis of France. The book draws on some connections with modern royalty and also looks at the connections between the countries in relation to King Charles the Second, the King Williams and Henrys (Harrys) of England of past and other main French and English historical characters who were pivotal to weaving the fabric of European history.
We also take time to imagine how the scandals which occurred in the story of Marie Antoinette may have gripped the nations if social media and the metaverse existed in the 17th and 18th centuries. The reference to the latter appears at first look somewhat whimsical, however we can see with the benefit of hindsight social media whether in the form as it was then in pamphlets and books and now with the aid of Web3 and the social media age, with television itself being now seen as antiquated by some young and the like, can make an indelible mark on the public consciousness.
We also take some time to look at how migration and the presence of African & Indian peoples interacted with the politics of the day particularly in France and England. Questions are also raised as to how civil and liberty rights in both Western Europe and the New World to include the Americas developed as a result of some of the changes France went through and the impact they may have had on England, further broadly and also on a microscale France’ entire political & governmental structure shifting.
“What is equality?” is raised as a dillemma considering feminist perspectives on Marie Antoinette and how she was viewed from a womens’ studies perspective.
We ask in a modern light would France ever embrace royalty again.
We also look at whether one can believe everything one learns in media.
