Kittyhawk Pilot
A fascinating book, that holds one's attention right through. The gripping truth about a very modest man doing his duty, tells it as it was.
A reasonable tale
Not particularly well written the story charges around and can be quite hard to follow. Often parts of the adventures are not explained and sometimes don't make sense; it's almost as though the author thinks that you were there and know what he is writing about.
Whilst the author has clearly done a lot of historic research on the aviation front he has missed the fact that one of 260 squadron's ground crew, Jim Russell, became a successful racing driver and founded the motor racing school that bears his name and through whose hands a number of F1 world champions passed.
Overall I am pleased to have read the book and learned a little more about the air war in North Africa and the Italian campaign. My father spent part of his war in the Royal Navy supporting these battles so it is a theatre of war that interests me.
There is a lot of good information in the book. As any historian will know this information needs to be cross checked with other sources, but it is a useful reference document even if not well written.
