The most chilling and terrifying serial killer thriller of the year, from international bestseller Lars Kepler.
Sweden’s most notorious serial killer.
Jurek Walter was shot and killed years ago. The police moved on and managed to forget the darkness that had tainted their lives.
Has come back from the dead.
But now someone is leaving a trail of broken bodies across Sweden and the clues all point to Walter. Detective Joona Linna is convinced his worst nightmare is becoming a reality: the man who tore apart his family has returned to finish the job.
He doesn’t just kill you. He buries your loved ones alive.
When Joona’s partner is taken – and locked inside an underground coffin – he finds himself with an impossible choice: leave her to die or walk into the trap set by the only man he ever feared.
‘Wraps you in a cloak of darkness’ Daily Mail
‘A thrilling, terrifying, dark and disturbing read. Loved it’ Patricia Gibney, no.1 bestselling author of the Lottie Parker series
Reviews
‘Deeply visceral stuff… unputdownable.’ European Literature Network
‘Savage but irresistible’ Metro
‘Characters, even minor ones, are well-developed and credibly flawed with painful pasts’ Evening Standard
“One of the best thrillers of the year! Kepler treats us readers to a nonstop roller coaster of suspense, taking us deep into the hearts and minds of perfectly realized characters. And, oh, what a villain! Lazarus is the definition of a one-sitting read!”
Jeffery Deaver, #1 best-selling author of The Goodbye Man
“Kepler’s characters, particularly Joona Linna, are always drawn sharp and deep, like scalpel cuts. Kepler’s prose unrolls as smoothly as a loop of razor wire. But it’s Kepler’s storytelling that really draws blood. Lazarus is as literate as peak Michael Connelly and as addictive as David Baldacci.”
A. J. Finn, #1 best-selling author of The Woman in the Window
“From the opening line, Kepler sets an ominous tone, cold and heavy with a taught sense of anticipation that will keep readers flying through the pages despite their fear of what might come next. Absolutely terrifying and beautifully written. I'm a fan for life!” Tami Hoag, #1 New York Times best-selling author of The Boy
‘A thrilling, terrifying, dark and disturbing read. Loved it.’ Patricia Gibney, no.1 bestselling author of the Lottie Parker series
Praise for Lars Kepler:
‘The story is incredibly dark and the reader will be caught between wanting to turn the page to read on and being too scared to do so’ SUN
‘STALKER is terrifying yet hugely enjoyable to read but be warned, it may take you a while to sleep after you finish it’ DAILY EXPRESS
‘One of the most hair-raising crime novels published this year’ SUNDAY TIMES

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In Kepler's relentlessly grim seventh Killer Instinct novel (after 2018's The Rabbit Hunter), Joona Linna, a superintendent with Sweden's National Crimes Unit, who has "solved more complex murder cases than anyone else in Scandinavia," returns to active duty after completing a community service sentence following time in prison for assault. Meanwhile, a suspected grave robber is murdered in Oslo, and in his refrigerator is the skull of Linna's late wife, which the robber apparently dug up in Sweden and brought home to Norway. The dead man has whip marks on his back, injuries similar to those Linna saw on the brother of his dead Hannibal Lecter like adversary, Jurek Walter, in a previous outing. In Germany, those same injuries show up on the body of another murdered criminal, who made a call to Linna's cellphone shortly before his death. Linna becomes convinced that Walter is still alive and recruiting men across Europe to serve as accomplices in his crimes. Kepler (the pen name of a husband-wife writing team) maintains an almost unbearable level of tension throughout and does an outstanding job of making readers fear that anyone could die a horrible death at any time. Fans of serial killer fiction won't want to miss this one.
