About The Author

Mary Shelley (née Wollstonecraft Godwin 1797–1851) was an English novelist and travel writer best known for her Gothic book Frankenstein: or, The Modern Prometheus (1818).

She was married to the Romantic poet and philosopher Percy Bysshe Shelley, her father was the political philosopher William Godwin, and her mother was the philosopher and feminist Mary Wollstonecraft.

She died at age 53 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Her novels include the historical work Valperga and Perkin Warbeck, The Last Man, and her final two novels, Lodore and Falkner. Her travel books included Rambles in Germany and Italy.
