Love is Darkness
Valerie Dearborn, no. 1
Publisher Description
Valerie Dearborn wants a cotton candy life, but it’s more like a puffer fish: pointy, unusual, and—if not prepared exactly right—deadly.
In London for graduate school, Val knows she's finally free. Her father and ex- almost-boyfriend are back in California and she's out of the vampire hunting biz for good. Or is she?
She draws the attention of Lucas, a 1600 year old vampire, and King to his kind. He’s also wicked hot. As golden as Lucifer, and just as tempting, he makes Valerie an offer she can't refuse: help him find out if the Others (Empaths, Fey and Werewolves) still exist or he'll stop protecting those she loves.
Lucas tells her that Empaths were a vampire’s biggest weakness before going extinct hundreds of years ago. While the Fey or a Werewolf might kill a vampire, an Empath could enslave them, seducing or harming them with emotions.
The one detail he leaves out? Valerie is an Empath. And after 1600 years of an emotionless existence, Lucas is drawn to Val like a recovering alcoholic to a wine cooler.
Can she keep those she loves alive, stop Lucas from munching on her, survive a fanged revolution and still find a way to have that boring, normal life she’s always wanted? Probably not, but boy is she gonna try.

Love is a brilliant Vampire anti-hero!
The heroine, Val can be occasionally irritating (she is an emotionally young 21), but I do like her. As long as she makes up her mind...I really don't like love triangles...and this book does seem to have one, but unlike some other readers I wrote Jack off from the word go. Seriously...so she's had a girl crush on him for years...he's perpetually angry and not remotely heroic (even though he does go around slaying Vampires - he's quite willing to stand aside and shove her into danger to teach her a lesson - not high on my heroic list of brilliant acts of heroism - there's helping someone to grow stronger and then there's being a moron and shoving someone into on coming path of death (which they may or may not survive). My favorite aspect of the story is Lucas, the Vampire King. I think he's one of the best anti-hero Vampires I've read the last couple of years. I did skip pages here and there to speed up to get back to scenes with Val and Lucas, but I’ll definitely read more of the series.
Love is darkness.
Really enjoyed the story and would recommend downloading if your a fan of supernatural books. Eagerly awaiting the release of Love is Fear next month!!
A exciting start to a great series
Absolutely loved the first book in this 3 part series and although I got it as a free book I would of happily paid for it. It's not your typical vampire book romance, there are many twists and turns. Val (Valerie Dearborn) goes through a lot of emotions from a teenagers angst to a young lady thrust into situations she so desperately dose not want to be a part of, You feel how torn she is between her love for jack and wanting a normal life and then her feelings for Lucas and all the emotional and physical he brings into her life. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.
