The funny, moving and uplifting new novel from Ruth Jones, co-creator of Gavin & Stacey and author of the Sunday Times bestsellers Never Greener and Us Three.
Grace is about to turn ninety and she doesn't want parties or presents or fuss. She just wants a quiet celebration: her daily swim in the sea and a cup of tea with granddaughter Elin and great-granddaughter Beca. More than anything, she wants to heal the family rift that's been breaking her heart for decades.
And to do that she must find her daughter, Alys - the only person who can help to put things right.
But thirty years is a long time.
And many words have been left unsaid.
So is it too late now to heal the pain of the past?
This is a story about mothers and daughters: the love inherent in that bond and the heartache that miscommunication can bring. More than anything, it's about the importance of being true to oneself. Meet Grace, Alys, Elin and Beca - a family you'll come to know, and to love.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Readers who have ever found themselves party to an ongoing family feud, whether trivial or life-changing, will relate only too well to Love Untold. The story revolves around the lives of four women from the same family: nearly 90-year-old Grace, her daughter Alys, her granddaughter Elin, and her great-granddaughter Beca. Few family feuds last 30 years, but this is sadly the case for the Meredith family, who haven’t heard from the wayward Alys in decades, with at least one of the generations believing her to be dead. Jones builds the relationships between the women so effortlessly, identifying the conflicts that are present in even the happiest of families, and exploring the complexities of mother-daughter relationships with quite brutal rawness. There are glimpses of the Gavin and Stacey-esque Welshisms and wit that made Jones a household name in the Noughties, but her ability to force a reader to stop in their tracks to blink back the tears is the quality that makes Love Untold an absolute must-read for mothers and daughters everywhere.
Customer Reviews
Absolutely brilliant, read in one sitting
Being Welsh and living not too far from a lot of places mentioned in the book added a familiarity and warmth for me when reading it. The characters were so rounded and so real to me that I felt like I knew them, or at least knew people in my own life very much like them. I read it in one sitting...it's now 5am and I'm going to be tired later...but no regrets, I would whole heartedly recommend this book to anyone, Welsh or otherwise. I laughed out loud in parts and cried like a baby in others. Absolutely spellbinding and it should be made into a film.
My first Ruth Jones read
I loved this story and I can’t wait to read another. Ruth’s characters were so relatable and the unexpected events made this a great read tinged with sadness.
Definitely recommend
Beautiful
There are writers, authors, and story tellers, in my opinion Ruth Jones has perfected the art of storytelling with this book
It’s multigenerational, flips between decades, and hits the mark perfectly with language and prose with each character.
This book was an utter joy to read, full of humanity, life, and death, beautifully scripted.
Can’t wait to read the next book…
