About the author
Sunday Times bestselling author Mhairi McFarlane was born in Scotland in 1976 and her unnecessarily confusing name is pronounced Vah-Ree.
After some efforts at journalism, she started writing novels and her first book, You Had Me At Hello, was an instant success and she’s since sold nearly 2 million copies of her books. Mad About You is her eighth book and she lives in Nottingham with a man and a cat.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Featuring a jilted bride and a rejected marriage proposal (different couples) mere pages in, Mad About You is a romance novel that really doesn’t get off to the best start, romance-wise. Fortunately, though she photographs people’s weddings for a living, our straight-talking protagonist Harriet is not much one for tradition herself. As Harriet battles through the various troubles that follow a break-up in your thirties, from finding a flatmate to facing up to previous relationship traumas, here McFarlane touches on darker topics than her books have often covered before. Even Harriet’s bleakest moments are handled with appropriate levity thanks to McFarlane’s sharp writing and wonderfully drawn characters. You’ll long for a Lorna in your life as much as you’ll be grateful to live free of the horror that is Jacqueline, Harriet’s almost-mother-in-law.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
McFarlane (after If I Never Met You) delivers a well-developed work of women's fiction with a romantic endcap. Wedding planner Harriet Hatley is adrift. Her two closest friends are her only family, and her current relationship is more comfortable than passionate. When her boyfriend stages a public proposal despite Harriet's frequent avowals that she's not interested in marriage, it's a clear sign that their relationship's not working. She needs to move out and move on. She finds a flatmate in her polar opposite, the handsome and recently heartbroken Cal Clarke. What follows is the story of a woman reviewing her romantic history and learning that confronting her past is the best way to build a happy future. The romance that slowly emerges between Harriet and Cal takes a backseat to Harriet's personal growth. Still, McFarlane's dry wit and Briticism-laden prose will appeal to her many fans, and her heroine charms. Readers who don't mind the minimal focus on the love connection will be enchanted.

Great story
Love when justice is served. Loved the characters and different relationships!
LOVED IT!!!
I love Mhairi’s style of writing but this one was my fave so far! Not just because it’s set in my hometown & mentions so many places in Leeds that I know, frequenting the nightspots & venues such as the Queens Hotel (stunning venue) but it had the biggest relationship awareness & one that I’ll read again & again. Absolutely adore this story, the characters, the hilarity & definitely the clarity of the messages to heed - thank you an excellent read 💕
Romance Drama
Capturing story although ends on a predictable note. Worth a read!
