Introduction Malaria caused by four species of Plasmodium is increasingly becoming a serious burden in most tropical countries and a major cause of death in children in sub-Saharan Africa. Approximately 300 million people worldwide are affected by malaria and between 1 and 1.5 million people die every year due to malaria (1).
