Mental Health Problems: Can VAC Deal with a Possible Tsunami of Suffering Veterans? (Law & Order‪)‬

This article is Part 4 of a five-part series examining the rights of Canadian Forces members and DND civilians as well as their dependants. Part 1 examined the Right to Counsel, and how, in my practice, I commonly encounter members and leadership who are unaware of this right or of its extent. Part 2 considered the statutory rights of DND/CF members' Right to Privacy, and in particular, aspects dealing with the collection, usage, safekeeping and disclosure of their personal health information entrusted to CF healthcare practitioners. Part 3 considered improper use of Release items by DND. This issue will consider veterans issues, and the perceived shortfalls associated with how we treat our veterans. Next month, the final part will consider matters such as grievances, harassment and claims.
