Publisher Description

The bestselling true story and inspiration behind the hit Netflix show, looking at how one underfunded FBI team became the first to explore the dark world of serial killers.

'John Douglas knows more about serial killers than anybody in the world' Jonathan Demme, director of The Silence of the Lambs

John Douglas is a former FBI Special Agent and expert in criminal profiling and behavioural science. He made a career of looking evil in the eye - and understanding it.

No wonder that he was the inspiration for Special Agent Jack Crawford in The Silence of the Lambs, as well as the film's consultant on the reality of serial killers.

Now in Mindhunter, Dougals explains how he invented and established the practice of criminal profiling, submerging himself in the world of serial killers in a quest to understand why they killed, and to help prevent more innocent lives from being ended by future killers.

Taking us on the journey of his serial crime unit developing from a derided two-bit operation in a dingy officer to one of the FBI's elite task forces, Douglas discusses some of the most terrible crimes of the age, including those of Jeffrey Dahmer, Charles Manson, Ted Bundy and the Atlanta child murderer.

With the fierce page-turning power of a bestselling novel, yet terrifyingly true, Mindhunter is a true crime classic.

I read this book in hardback copy a few years ago and as often happens I subsequently lent the book to a friend and then forgot who I'd lent it to and lost it ! I have always been interested in real life crime books and documentaries and have to say that I found this book fascinating to read. The content and details of the various cases that John Douglas worked on and describes in this book is at times unbelievably hard to comprehend but utterly compelling. There is also a chapter on how parents can use the experience of John Douglas's work and in depth knowledge of how serial killers operate to protect there own children and also how people in general can protect themselves by understanding situations that could make themselves vulnerable and avoiding such situations as much as they can.
I have been looking forward to reading this book again and and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone although be aware that If I didn't know that the details in this book were true I would think that it was absurd, such is the depravity of some of the killers described.Overall a must for my new iPad,enjoy.

Underwhelmed

Undramatic telling of the background to the Behavioural Science Investigation Support Unit, or criminal profilers.

Disturbing but brilliant read

Will give you nightmares as these are very true crimes. Very disappointed that this ebook for the iPad does not include the photo sections that were part of the actual paper book. (Minus 1 star)
