Publisher Description
When the Marines destroy a terrorist training camp in the Libyan desert, they also kill both the parents of a ten-year-old boy, Mohammed Maguire.
Brought back to Ireland, the land of his mother's birth, young Mohammed is treated as a public relations commodity by both sides of an argument that he doesn't understand - but which he can see with the clear eyes of a child.
Wickedly funny and wonderfully abrasive, MOHAMMED MAGUIRE is Bateman at his very best.

Mohammad Maguire
Mohammad Maguire promises to deliver a gripping yet comical account of a young man"s struggle to find an identity during Northern Ireland's turbulent past. The reader is taken from Middle Eastern desert to Belfast jail and on to Hollywood LA to provide the context for Mohammad's unique set of circumstances and the twists and turns his young life takes.
Bateman conjures up a loveable lead character and a supporting cast of assorted misfits and rogues but unlike most of his other books, I felt the characters remained quite distant as the story played out. The idea is strong - it's a bit like the accounts of a young paramilitary Forest Gump - but it never really got up and running for me.
