From the New York Times bestselling author of Archer's Voice comes a heart-wrenching new stand-alone contemporary romance.
A broken woman . . .
Crystal learned long ago that love brings only pain. Feeling nothing at all is far better than being hurt again. She guards her wounded heart behind a hard exterior and carries within her a deep mistrust of men, who, in her experience, have only ever used and taken.
A man in need of help . . .
Then Gabriel Dalton walks into her life. Despite the terrible darkness of his past, there's an undeniable goodness in him. And even though she knows the cost, Crystal finds herself drawn to Gabriel. His quiet strength is wearing down her defenses and his gentle patience is causing her to question everything she thought she knew.
Only love can mend a shattered heart . . .
Crystal and Gabriel never imagined that the world, which had stolen everything from them, would bring them a deep love like this. Except fate will only take them so far, and now the choice is theirs: Harden their hearts once again or find the courage to shed their painful pasts.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
If you've ever doubted whether love really does conquer all then this is for you. Mia Sheridan takes two troubled individuals and weaves their tortured pasts into a hopeful, stirring romance. Emotionally damaged, Crystal and Gabriel have to decide if they’ll let their wary hearts give in to love. This is just the kind of sparkling narrative we expect from the author of Archer’s Voice—she captures every look and nuanced gesture between her protagonists with a breathtaking authenticity. Sheridan’s tale of love's healing power will make your heart break and mend all at once.
In this gimmicky romance, bestseller Sheridan (Archer's Voice) unites two individuals who have experienced so much tragedy that their combined anguish may exhaust the reader. Ellie lost her beloved mother at an early age and was foisted on a father who had never known she existed and preferred it that way. Escaping at 18 from his insufficient protection, she is now a beautiful but wary young woman known as Crystal. While working as a stripper (Sheridan emphasizes that she had no choice but to pursue this career path), she has developed the necessary shell to survive. Then preternaturally handsome Gabriel appears in the strip club and makes an unusual request: he wants to hire Crystal to help him tolerate being touched so he can have a relationship with a woman. Gabriel's backstory is as horrific as hers: he was kidnapped as a child, locked in a basement, and tortured for years until he managed to kill his assailant to escape. Somehow, he has achieved a fairly normal adult life. Crystal is initially unwilling to participate in his experiment, afraid of being made to experience feelings herself, but circumstances force her to rely on Gabriel, and they fall in love quickly. Gabriel is brave and wants to move forward with his life; Crystal struggles with doubt and does not believe she deserves anything good. This novel often reads like a sappy, overwrought TV movie, but some readers who like seeing lost souls find each other and emerge stronger may enjoy it.

What a lovely story!!! Full of hope and second chances. Everyone should grab a copy.
More than a love story
Gabriel Dalton is perfect book boyfriend material and an absolute classic, classic Mia Sheridan character. The vulnerability of Archer, the strength of Kyland, the devotion of Calder all rolled into one amazingly resilient man. I'm totally smitten and a little bit exhausted. In a good way though; all passion spent as my lovely English teacher Mrs Satterthwaite used to say.
Mia describes the book as a love story, but it is so much more than that. It is a story of hope. Of redemption. Of self-belief. A message that we can all be broken but we have the power to put the pieces back together.
The writing is stunning, moving, breathtaking. As the story unfolds it morphs from being about Crystal healing Dalton, to Dalton healing Eloise, to Eloise holding my heart in her hands. I enjoyed every single word.
