Mrs. Blackford thinks she has only one black cat - but her cat, Blackie, has other plans. He invites four friends (all identical black cats) to live with him and Mrs. Blackford. All the cats agree to be seen only one at a time. Mrs. Blackford is perplexed when Blackie seems to have endless energy and is always hungry and thirsty. Young readers know the truth while the story’s adults are mystified.
