Womaniser Klaus Kinser, conducting the West Midlands Philharmonic Orchestra, falls headlong into the orchestra pit, very dead. What looks like a heart attack is anything but - his body has surprisingly stopped producing proteins. Forensic scientist Jane Keller is hard pressed to identify the source of the problem as more musicians die, without apparent motive.
