Publisher Description

We’re taking a new lease on life. Instead of embarking on  grueling motor-coach journey across the length and width of Europe with a brutal Fuhrer giving orders regarding what we can and what we cannot see, or a stern cruise excursion director doing much the same, we decided to go it on our own, experiencing autumn in the Green Mountains of Vermont, as well as the Berkshire’s of Western Massachusetts and the Catskill’s of the Hudson River Valley.

Stowe VT, surrounded the picturesque Green Mountains, the Trapp Family Lodge, where the family that memorialized the Sound of Music sought refuge after the Nazi invasion of their native Austria, the rugged Smuggler’s Cove State Park; Plymouth VT, where Calvin Coolidge was sworn in as our 30th President by his father, a farmer and Justice of Peace and the Green Mountains Scenic Byway, where timely visitors always cry out “Ah…”

Across the state line in Western Massachusetts, we spend a week in tiny Hancock, nestled in the brilliant Berkshire’s and its Shaker Village, home of a mysterious and long forgotten religious sect, followed by the museum

of America’s favorite illustrator.

Finally, we head south down US 9 to the Catskill’s along the Hudson River and on to its Springwood, the home and burial site of Franklin D. Roosevelt, our 32nd President.

No more London, Paris and Rome for us. We are limiting ourselves to the small towns of America, villages of farmers and merchants that made our nation great.
