Next to Die was my fourth book by Neil White
This was the fourth Neil White book that I have read.
The first three I would have given 5*+++ as I thought everything about them (almost!) was excellent.
This one was good and equally well written but was disappointing in comparison.
It was no page turner for me. I found the story rather unconvincing and confusing but I think a major reason was that I didn’t take to the two main characters. Alternate chapters recorded the actions of the two brothers, Sam and Joe, common names both three letters long. Right until the end I couldn’t remember which was the lawyer and which was the policeman which spoilt the flow of the story until something in the plot reminded me. Several times I considered writing a reminder down but thought ‘Why should I?’.
I will definitely read more by Neil White and hope they’re more of the 5*+++ books. If Sam and Joe are featured I’ll be making notes!
Exciting!
This is the first I've read with Joe and Sam, I can honestly say I loved it. Both great characters with their anxieties and flaws but still likeable. Exciting plot, plenty of twists and turns, many of those moments were you just know what's about to happen and in your head you are thinking "No, don't!" Will definitely be reading the next one.
