Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. (Aug 29, 1809 – Oct 7, 1894) was an American physician, professor, lecturer, and author based in Boston. He was also contributed a lot to development of medicine. Before turning to medicine, he studied law for some time. He position of professor in Harvard and advocated various medical reforms and notably posited the controversial idea that doctors were capable of carrying puerperal fever from patient to patient.
