Pacino di Bonaguida

The 19 folios contain a rich sequence of 38 full-page miniatures in tempera and gold leaf, encapsulating the artistic perfection of the Trecento; what Giotto created on a large scale with his frescos in the Arena Chapel can be found at the same level of quality, but on a smaller scale, in this unique illuminated manuscript. 32 of the pictures show scenes of the life of Christ, and in addition there are two scenes from the Old Testament and four scenes of the life of Blessed Gerard of Villamagna, a Florentine saint from the 13th century.
