Paul Prescott's Charge

After his father's death, thirteen-year-old Paul Prescott is sent to the local poorhouse, where he endures harsh conditions under the care of Mr. and Mrs. Mudge. Determined to honor his dying father's wish, Paul resolves to repay a debt owed to a harsh creditor. He runs away to New York City, where he faces a series of adventures and challenges, including finding work, making friends, and confronting dangers.
