When a privileged, well-educated teenage girl from New York and her seven-year-old little brother were made orphans by an unforgiving Christmas Eve house fire, they found themselves shipped off to an aunt in the teacher-poor parcel of the Oklahoma territory where families were scratching for survival.
Amidst the upheaval, the young girl realized that she was the only hope her little brother had for an education. Soon, neighbors begged for the privilege of letting their children just listen as she taught her little brother. As attendance grew, classes were moved to a virtual cave, made by an overhanging ledge. A room was constructed beneath that ledge with a rough flagstone floor and a strong, field-stone outer wall.
How wonderfully strange that those who entered this shelter of stones would emerge with a gift that would stand the test of time, the Great War, and generations to come.

AUTHOR BIO
Ms. Joann Klusmeyer is the daughter of pioneer missionary parents. She grew up in rural Arkansas and learned and served in the little country church her father built and then pastored. Ms. Klusmeyer is a prolific author with over 50 titles to her credit (and counting).
