Prince of the Blood Prince of the Blood

Publisher Description

The whole of the magnificent Riftwar Cycle by bestselling author Raymond E. Feist, master of magic and adventure, now available in ebook

Twenty years have passed since the end of the Riftwar.

Prince Borric conDoin and his twin brother Erland have been summoned back to their father’s court in Krondor. Prince Arutha has decided he needs to tame his spirited progeny and teach them statecraft and responsibility. Shortly after they arrive home, therefore, he orders them to Kesh, to represent the Isles at the Empress’ seventy-fifth jubilee. But before the new ambassadors depart, they are attacked.

The foiled assassin’s suicide reawakens fears that the Nighthawks – a brotherhood of killers for hire – are active once more. But the truth is far more disturbing: the assassin was a member of the Royal House of Kesh…

Despite the dangers, Borric and Erland’s mission continues, it being vital to sustaining the fragile peace between the two nations. But the brothers have little idea of the exotic world of Kesh, the strange players at this alien court, nor the hidden forces intent upon tearing the empire apart.

An endless rollercoaster of derringer do

This stand-alone novel contains far less magic and fewer Gods, fantastic creatures or historic enmities than the original trilogy (or, indeed, the subsequent novel "The King's Buccaneer"), being a rites of passage which is a more or less an endless rollercoaster of derringer do, albeit with a dash of political intrigue mixed in.
As such, it is every bit the page-turner of the preceding 3 novels, utterly compulsive and damn good fun.
If I had one criticism it would be that plot development at some key junctures relied a little too much on eavesdropping on key players' conversations, while they unknowingly walked past the books' heroes, explaining what they were about to do next.

Great read after the riftwar

If like me you loved the riftwar cycle, this is a good book to read next.
The writing is a step down and the characters aren't as fleshed out, but I still really enjoyed the overall story and I can't get enough of the universe.

If you liked the riftwar cycle give it a read.
