Sixteen year old Cascade McCall lives in a futuristic city with advanced architecture and technology. While the city may be exceptionally sophisticated, citizens are not afforded many freedoms - they are assigned jobs and partners and live under a points system, where they constantly struggle to stay above a point threshold known as a termination number. REDUCTION, the first book in the series of the same name, follows Cascade as he discovers not only who he is, but also the lengths he would go to in order to redress the injustices within his city and explore the world beyond its surrounding walls.
