Publisher Description

Assassin's Creed: Renaissance is the thrilling novelisation by Oliver Bowden based on the game series.

'I will seek Vengeance upon those who betrayed my family. I am Ezio Auditore di Firenze. I am an Assassin...'

The Year of Our Lord 1476 - the Renaissance: culture and art flourish alongside the bloodiest corruption and violence. Bitter blood-feuds rage between the warring political families of Italy.

Following the murder of his father and brothers, Ezio Auditore di Firenze is entrusted with an ancient Codex, the key to a conspiracy that goes back to the centuries-old conflict between the shadowy Templar Knights and the elite Order of Assassins.

Ezio must avenge the deaths of his kinsmen and in doing so fulfil his destiny, and live by the laws of the Assassin's Creed.

Truth is written in blood

Assassin's Creed: Renaissance is based on the phenomenally successful gaming series. Fans of the game will love these stories. Other titles in the series include Assassin's Creed: Forsaken, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed: The Secret Crusade, and Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

Oliver Bowden is the pen-name of an acclaimed novelist.

Fantastic reading

If you have played the games this is a fantastic book. Really well written and totally gripping. I haven't read a book all the way through for years but I couldn't put this down and when I knew I was nearing the end I bought the next one.

Enjoyable Read

I enjoyed the book. I imagine I enjoyed it more so because I had just recently replayed the game as I am replaying them in release order.

Some video game novels are pretty poorly written but this one is pretty good provided you are familiar with the games and like them. I don’t think this book has a great deal to offer people who know nothing about the games and it would make certain choices taken in writing the book seem very strange.

An example of this is the random Italian words. In the game you play as a character in the modern day who relives his ancestors lives through a machine called the animus. The animus translates the 16th century Italian into modern day English for the benefit of Desmond but the translation software is buggy so random Italian words still crop up. As none of this is explained in the books I find this a very strange and potentially jarring addition to readers who are new to assassins creed. The functionality of going to the Italian word meaning and back in the book app would regularly fail for me also and take me back to the start of the chapter the word was in.
