From the moment Quinn Montgomery sat behind her first snare and cymbal set, she was destined for fame and glory. As Hush Note’s infamous female drummer, she sets the rhythm for the band’s chart-toppings hits. When people tap their feet to their music, it’s to her pulse.
Quinn is content to live in a world away from her family and the cage of her youth. Her only regret is leaving Graham Hayes behind without a goodbye. No matter how many sold-out stadiums she plays, no matter how many crowds sing her songs, his voice haunts her when the music stops.
When a family tragedy forces her to return home to Montana, she plans to leave the second she’s paid her respects. But seeing Graham again turns her life upside down. As a boy, he wasn’t able to make her stay. As a man, he might be her future.
If they can mend their rifts and find solace in the refrains.
I have read this book for a second time and I know I will probably read it many more times! Thank you for such an amazing book!
Another epic love story
I want so badly to write something elegant and eloquent, but the only word that come to me right now is Wow! Just Wow!
I feel like Devney Perry has hit me in the face with a fist full of feels! This book, this beautiful, raw, painful love story, had me bawling my eyes out from almost the first page.
Every sentence is evocative, whether it’s hurt from a painful past, or being an outsider to a close knit family, sorrow at losing a beloved Nan, or the power of a love that was left behind but has never gone away, or elation at the second chance at a future that always should have been, along with the sweetness only a child can bring.
I use this phrase a lot, but this story is the absolute definition of an emotional rollercoaster, the ups and downs are so frequent, my head and heart were all over the place.
I absolutely fell head over heels for Quinn, daughter of a preacher, she went against the grain to follow her dreams of being a rockstar, which she has excelled at, unfortunately this dream came at a price. Her father disowned her, her family didn’t want to speak to her and the saddest of all, she had to leave behind Graham, her childhood sweetheart, but also, the one and only love of her life. When Quinn returns for her Nan’s funeral nine years after leaving, the first person she sees is Graham and all the feelings she has channelled into her music and tried to forget, come flooding back, but Graham is no longer the 18 year old boy she left behind, he’s now a man, and an angry one not at all happy to see her.
It took me a bit longer to fall for Graham, though he was, in his eyes, left behind, he was just as stubborn as Quinn, expecting her to leave her dream and come back for him, instead of encouraging her or following her. He was also the first to move on, Colin being the result of that. Although, I loved Colin to pieces, I was angry at Graham for his treatment of Quinn and the way he acted in the beginning, I wanted Quinn to make him understand how much he hurt her too.
Quinn and Graham have the epic, once in a lifetime kind of love, one that spans countries and decades and will never truly be over, that was obvious from the abundance of pain they harboured, you don’t have feelings so strong without love being involved, so it was inevitable this pair would overcome their obstacles to be together, but what a journey it was to get there.
I devoured this book, each and every character brought something special to the story, especially Nan, and how she was guiding force for bringing Quinn and Graham back together, also Quinn’s band mates, whose stories, I cannot wait to get my hands on.
A love story for the ages, and one you most definitely need to experience for yourself.
An amazing addition to the series!!
Rifts & Refrains is more than just words on a page. This story is the ultimate second-chance romance. One that takes readers on an emotional journey through loss, grief, forgiveness, and love.
Through Devney Perry’s phenomenal writing, we connect with the characters on a deep level and are so very invested in their story that it's hard to believe it's not real.
Reading this, I saw no happy outcome for the pair. Quinn is destined to be a traveller, touring the globe as a badass rock star and Graham needing the stability of a permanent home and family close by and a routine for his son, Colin. My mind couldn't come up with a happy solution. Turns out, there was not one happy solution, but many!!
With some amazing side-characters and a whole new family of people to love, this was a joy to read and one I will remember fondly.
