Publisher Description

Having departed from San Francisco, S.S. Brother Jonathan was bound for Portland and Vancouver, British Columbia. The side wheel steamer carried gold coins, passengers and a payroll of $850,000. It sank to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, near Crescent City, California, on July 30, 1865. The ship stayed undiscovered and unexplored for 125 years. Planned expeditions to reach it, and recover its immense cash, were aborted in 1928 and 1970.
