Gut-wrenching
I’m not one for stories of child tragedy not just because of the maternal terror attached to them but I usually prefer something a bit grittier. However, I love this author and her writing style so I gave this a go. Although the actual plot wasn’t as gripping as her other novels, her ability to capture the situations & emotions of the characters, the horror of the tragedy and the consequent 10 yr period that followed is incredible. I only writ reviews when I feel one is warranted, I am not a crier but I cried all the way through this as the horror and pain was too tangible even for me. Admirable explorations of grief, loss & disenfranchised grief. I had the sadness of this novel on my mind for a while after finishing it. Brilliantly written.
