While stressed-out city-dweller stuck in remote yet romantic destination is a trope well-trodden, Sarah Morgan’s latest festive novel has plenty more to offer besides. The outsider at the heart of this story is Lucy, who travels north to Scotland from London hoping to secure a business deal to save the struggling company she loves. From there, it’s over to Ross and the rest of the Miller family to slowly but surely charm the socks off both Lucy and reader. Snowed in for Christmas is told only from the perspective of its female characters, all of whom are brilliantly written. There is a romantic angle of course, but the family dynamics are the real highlight of this book. After a few years of lonely and unsettled Christmases for many, it’s a joy to spend time in the company of this rambunctious, multi-generational cast of meddling but well-meaning women.
