A brilliantly well executed space opera. Well written, well paced and full of believable characters you really feel for. And it's free!
I found this through a search for Iain M Banks' Look to Windward and downloaded it on a whim. I'm glad I did. the plot is gripping, the tech and dystopian social context thought provoking; I'll definitely be buying the rest of the series.
A great example of how giving something away for free can increase you profile, fanbase and earnings as a writer. Futuristic in every way.
Broadcast 0 frikkin awesome
What do I need to say that hasn't already been said
This is so good a plot line it has depth and substance this is no flash in the pan
Roll on the next book ( just wish I could get them at a knock down price as I'm just between jobs at the mo )
Edge of your seat stuff
I first read this book a number of years ago and I have read it and the following series a number of times now.
Spinward Fringe: Origins is a fantastic baseline to gain an understanding and an insight into the world of the characters. This book is truly set apart by the authors style of writing and how characters are introduced. You really get to know each one but not in the boring, fact based point system many authors use. You connect with each one on a different level.
The storyline itself is enthralling as it is nail biting and emotional. There are chapters within that could have used a little more editing and perhaps a bit more information on what we were reading.
Other than this minor criticism this book and the following series are an absolute must read for any Sci Fi / Fantasy / Space Opera fan.
Spaceships, space battles, planets, stations, exploration, romantic entanglements and so much more.
The Spinward Fringe series and indeed Randolph Lalonde has become my favourite all time book series and Author.
