Publisher Description
The Clone Wars have begun. Battle lines are being drawn throughout the galaxy. With every world that joins the Separatists, the peace guarded by the Jedi Order is slipping through their fingers.
After an explosion devastates Cato Neimoidia, the jewel of the Trade Federation, the Republic is blamed and the fragile neutrality of the planet is threatened. The Jedi dispatch Obi-Wan Kenobi, one of the Order's most gifted diplomatic minds, to investigate the crime and maintain the balance that has begun to dangerously shift. As Obi-Wan investigates with the help of a heroic Neimoidian guard, he finds himself working against the Separatists who hope to draw the planet into their conspiracy-and senses the sinister hand of Asajj Ventress in the mists that cloak the planet.
Amid the brewing chaos, Anakin Skywalker rises to the rank of Jedi Knight. Despite the mandate that Obi-Wan travel alone-and his former master's insistence that he listen this time-Anakin's headstrong determination means nothing can stop him from crashing the party, and bringing along a promising but conflicted youngling.
Once a Padawan to Obi-Wan, Anakin now finds himself on equal-but uncertain-footing with the man who raised him. The lingering friction between them increases the danger for everyone around them. The two knights must learn a new way to work together-and they must learn quickly, to save Cato Neimoidia and its people from the fires of war. To overcome the threat they face they must grow beyond master and apprentice. They must stand together as brothers.

Interesting
We finally get a little context to the throw away line from Obi-Wan in Revenge of the Sith “That business in Cato Nemoidia, doesn’t… Doesn’t count.” And it’s a pretty well written story to be honest.
The characters are well rounded, it’s nice to see Obi-Wan especially, trying to decide what his relationship with Anakin is and how to confront him about his suspicions about matters such as Padme’ or the death of his mother etc. We also see more development in Anakin in how he views his role with his relationships and how he has to juggle all these people and ideals and this eventually translates into The Clone Wars TV show with him wanting to save everyone.
The Nemoidian side characters are especially interesting given their own biases and peoples state of neutrality at the beginning of the war. And the subtle power shifts everyone in the Jedi Order are going through when Jedi are suddenly expected to lead troops into battle, going against what they believe to be their core ideals.
I love books like this. They really enrich the lore of everything around them, and reading this straight after Attack of the Clones & Queen’s Peril really helped set the scene for this story.
A good post episode 2 story
This book takes place shortly after episode 2 and leads into the clone wars. I would say this is definitely one of the better canon novels out there. It goes into great depth about the relationship between obi wan and his former apprentice who has recently been promoted the the rank of Jedi knight, anakin skywalker, now that he isn’t his padawan anymore the change in dynamic between there relationship from what it was is good to see. The main story is a bit predictable and there’s a couple of good appearances from other characters that fans will identify almost immediately. Would definitely recommend this book to fans who are looking for more obi wan and anakin adventures.
