Starship: First Flight

At the age of eighteen, Amanda Riley, known to her friends as Red, volunteered to be a scout on a starship. The physics of interstellar travel are brutal. She will spend most of her life living on a disk, two hundred meters in diameter and three stories high, with forty scouts and crew. Thanks to the miracle of constant acceleration, she will travel two hundred light years from Earth and explore planets orbiting four alien suns, searching for extraterrestrial life. Her most surprising discovery is that living in such close quarters with so many young people for so long is as hazardous as the dangers she finds on alien planets.
