Charming winter warmer
Steamy Winter Wishes is a charming holiday short story from the fabulous Grace Callaway. Set at a house party hosted by Alaric and Emma McLeod, the Duke and Duchess of Strathaven, it gives readers the chance to catch up with the Kent family siblings and their friends as they gather together to celebrate Christmas.
This is a wonderful glimpse into the continuing lives of all the beloved characters from the Heart of Enquiry and Game of Dukes series. As an avid reader it was nice to see them all together with their families and witness the love and bond that they have.
There are small issues to resolve along the way – Marianne’s worry over Ambrose’s workload, Tess’s concern that Harry has become distant, Bea’s worry over her brother and Emma struggling with the burdens of expectation she places on herself – all of which are brought to a happy and satisfying conclusion.
It was also an opportunity to see a little more of the children, especially Olivia, Alaric and Emma’s high-spirited daughter. Given that her book is next as the start of Grace’s new series [Olivia and the Masked Duke], I loved discovering how she met her hero. I can’t wait to see how that plays out.
I read this in one sitting and it left my heart full of joy. A happy and joyful celebration of love and the familial bond.
I was sent an ARC of this by the author but the views and opinions are my own. I will definitely be buying my own copy. Highly recommended for fans of Grace’s books and whilst not completely stand-alone it would be a nice introduction to the dynamics of the family for new readers.
