Claudius Ptolemy of Alexandria was the most influential ancient mathematical astronomer. The *Tetrabiblos* is his companion treatise on astrology — the science of inferring terrestrial influences from celestial configurations — and has remained the standard ancient reference for Western astrological thought for nineteen centuries.
