Publisher Description
Thanks for Listening! is filled with stories of and reflections on the "hey, hey" days of this memorable man behind the mike—from his start basketball-announcing in Peoria, to his over 30 years as Voice of the Chicago Cubs on WGN, to his "prankful" friendship with Bob Elson.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
This second volume in the Great Announcers series, written by the radio and TV interpreter of the Chicago Cubs for 37 years, the White Sox for 23 years and the Bears for 23, with the help of station WGN editor Rosenberg and longtime Cubs fan Colletti, is pleasant but unexceptional reading. Brickhouse evidently never met a man he hated (it is necessary to read between the lines to conclude that he was not fond of controversial Cubs manager Leo Durocher), and his reminiscences of the great and near-great are blandly amiable. The liveliest passages are two discussions with Howard Cosell, in which Brickhouse comes off second best. Photos not seen by PW.
