Not Smollett’s best
I much preferred Humphrey Clonker and Roderick Random. Peregrine Pickle is coarse, and has an unsympathetic hero. The story is a series of loosely connected episodes where Peregrine Pickle plays practical jokes, gets into scrapes and seduces women. It is funny in parts, but tedious in other parts.
