The Ancient Allan

H. Rider Haggard was an English novelist and Victorian writer of African frontier adventure novels. He initiated many of the now common themes of the lost civilization and lost continent, including the ancient magic and curses, secret chambers and mysticism. Together with Arthur Conan Doyle, Haggard is considered as one of the founders of Lost World literary genre.


“The Ancient Allan” was written in 1920. The author described the story of Allan adventures. After the urgent request of some of madam, Allan inhaled the smoke of a special plant and the memory of that plant brought back the memory of past lives – in ancient time of mammoth hunters… In "Ice gods" Allan with a friend breathed the same smoke, and saw himself as his ancestor.
