The Bad Man

Gilbert Jones looks out over Arizona’s blue, heat-heavy hills and wonders how a shot fired in a distant European city helped bring him to the edge of ruin.

On the unsettled border after the Great War, ranch life means hard work under a fierce sun—and never knowing when bandits may strike again. Gilbert came west with a young man’s faith that he could make a home here; now stolen cattle, financial troubles, and the threat of losing his ranch have worn that confidence thin. His neighbor Jasper Hardy has taken an option on the property, and Gilbert must weigh the comfort of dealing with a familiar face against the danger of losing everything he built. How friendly is a neighbor who wants your land?
