Lyman Frank Baum (1856 – 1919) better known in the literary world by his pen name L. Frank Baum, was a brilliant American author chiefly known for his children's books. The world fame was obtained by one of his best works named The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Numerous works of him nowadays are participated as screenplays for cartoons, computer games, and television in whole.

“The Black Sheep” is short story by L. Frank Baum about amazing friendship between black sheep and a little boy who needed a winter coat as his mother was too poor to buy him one. The black sheep discusses the matter with the farmer. Since each sheep averages two bags of wool per shearing, the sheep has a proposition: if she can grow a third bag worth of wool, will the farmer donate that bag to the boy to sew a new coat. The genial farmer agrees. At the end the black sheep is gratified for a help and for having such a good friend.
