Publisher Description
A superbly exciting novel which vividly captures the horror of the battlefield, The Bloody Ground is the fourth volume in the Starbuck Chronicles.
It is late summer 1862 and the Confederacy is invading the United States of America.
Nate Starbuck, a northern preacher’s son fighting for the rebel South, is given command of a punishment battalion – a despised unit of shirkers and cowards. His enemies expect it to be his downfall, as Starbuck must lead this ramshackle unit into a battle that will prove to be the bloodiest of the Civil War.

Carolina.

The Bloody Ground
Once again Bernard Cornwall has produced a masterpiece based on the American civil war. Unfortunately, with another three years of war still to go, Starbuck never got the chance to march again.
A television company took up the rights to film the Richard Sharpe novels and Starbuck was put aside in favour of new novels about Sharpe
Even then, he could have returned to the Starbuck Chronicles, but he obviously decided to start The Last Kingdom series, the last of which is due out at the end of this year (2020)
I hope, but I doubt he will, return to The Starbuck Chronicles. I would like to have read how the war pans out for Nathaniel Starbuck
